King James VI leaves Edinburgh to travel to London.

Following the death of Elizabeth I and his accession to the English throne, James VI of Scotland left Edinburgh for London on April 5, 1603. His journey south marked the Union of the Crowns: James continued as James VI of Scotland while also becoming James I of England and Ireland.
